In the Upper Sava Valley, people have struggled with nature since time immemorial to earn their daily bread. They cultivated as much as the conditions allowed, yet they also made good use of the natural resources available to them. What the fields could not provide, they obtained from livestock. This led to the development of a distinctive form of alpine pastoral farming in the region – mountain dairy farming and alpine pasturing.
