The Pocar Homestead in Zgornja Radovna

After the homestead was no longer inhabited, it was restored and converted into a museum, so that today it showcases to visitors the life, work, and architectural heritage of past centuries. It is also unique for its preserved and displayed rich collection of household items, furniture, tools, utensils, clothing, and other objects that were once made, used, and stored here.

In 2006, Triglav National Park received a Europa Nostra diploma as part of the European Union Prize for Cultural Heritage for the restoration project of the Pocar Homestead. You can read more about one of the oldest homesteads in Triglav National Park in the brochure, or explore a 3D model of the Pocar Homestead.

The Pocar Homestead is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays from June 13 through August 30 (between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.)

The homestead is clustered together and consists of a residential house, a farm building, a small barn for small livestock, a wooden pigsty, a carriage house, and a cistern for collecting rainwater; in the past, there was also a single hayrack standing nearby. All of these buildings attest to the homestead’s former economic prosperity, and its exterior has remained virtually unchanged to this day.

A few more dates from the past: the year 1775 is carved into a ceiling beam in the house, which means the house in its current form is at least 250 years old; the oldest document believed to refer to this property, which was preserved in the family archives, dates back to 1609.

In addition to farming their own land, the former owners of this farm earned extra income through other activities, such as charcoal burning and transportation.
