Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden

The Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden is located in the heart of Triglav National Park, in the Trenta Valley. It was founded in 1926 by the passionate botanist Albert Bois de Chesne. Today, the garden is managed by the Natural History Museum of Slovenia.

As Slovenia’s only alpine botanical garden, Juliana serves as an outdoor classroom.

Here where visitors can learn about plant species characteristic of the alpine and pre-alpine regions of the Slovenian Alps, as well as the dry grasslands of the Slovenian Littoral and Istria.

The Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden is open from 1 May to 30 September.

Located 25 km from Kranjska Gora and 23 km from Bovec, the garden is home to numerous protected, rare, and endemic plant species. More information about the Juliana Alpine Botanical Garden can be found on the website of the Natural History Museum of Slovenia.

Tip: Near the Juliana Garden you can explore the Soča Trail. In the Trenta Valley, you can also visit Dom Trenta, the national park’s information and education centre, where you can discover presentations about Triglav National Park and exhibitions showcasing the nature, environment, and cultural heritage of the Trenta Valley and its inhabitants.

The park authority maintains trails within the scope of its responsibilities and available resources but cannot guarantee your safety. Visitors are responsible for adapting their plans to the weather and trail conditions, choosing trails suited to their abilities, using appropriate equipment, staying on marked trails and acting responsibly.
